Norwood Day

The first big event of the fall is Norwood Day, held on Friday, September 9th and Saturday, September 10th, 2022. This two-day event celebrates Norwood’s history and its community of neighbors. The celebration kicks off at 6:30 on Friday night with a fireworks show at Coakley Middle School. Friday’s festivities will also include a live DJ, games, and snacks for sale. Proceeds from snack sales benefit Youth Football and Cheer.
The next day starts with the Norwood Day Parade, which starts at the library and winds through downtown, ending at the Walter J. Dempsey gazebo, where there will be booths and tables from all kinds of vendors. Depending on the vendors, there might be games, crafts, and snacks for purchase near the gazebo. This event is appropriate for all ages and is free of charge, though you might pay for snacks and merchandise.
The Culinary Fight Club Street Food Showdown
On Sunday, September 18th, the Culinary Fight Club is hosting a Street Food Showdown at the Norwood Space Center on Morse Street. This organization partners with Fight2Feed, a nonprofit dedicated to ending food uncertainty in our communities. The event will raise money to support Fight2Feed’s mission, but it’ll also be a chance for you to sample food from street vendors from all over the Boston metroplex. While the vendor lineup hasn’t been announced yet, there will be at least 10 food trucks or stalls, serving portable food. Celebrity judges will choose a winner from among the participants.
Along with the food, there will be music and other vendor booths, so this is an event you don’t want to miss. Attendees aged 12 and over must buy a ticket for entrance, but tickets include a certain number of food and drink vouchers. You can buy additional food samples on site as well as food for children under 12, who get into the event for free. A portion of each ticket supports Fight2Feed, and you can buy your tickets here. Here’s more information about the ticket structure:
- Adults over 21: $40.00 (includes eight contestant sample vouchers and two drink vouchers).
- Attendees aged 12 to 21: $20.00 (includes five contestant sample vouchers and two additional food truck sample vouchers).
- Children under 12: Free (food for purchase on site).
The Craft Affair at Norwood
The Craft Affair at Norwood is an annual event that raises money for Norwood High School’s After Prom Party and other school programs. This year’s Craft Affair will be held on October 15, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Norwood High School. If past years are anything to look at, this year’s festival will be full of treats and gifts for everyone in your life. While the available items might depend on the roster of vendors who sign up this year, popular items in the past have included knit goods, candles, handmade jewelry, and baked goods.
According to the Norwood Town News, the Craft Affair usually earns about $10,000, which pays for the entire After Prom Party, an event designed to keep high schoolers safe on prom night. Any remaining funds can go to other Norwood High clubs and sports teams who apply for funding from the event. Norwood High students volunteer at the event, selling tickets and helping vendors and guests transport items. This event is a fantastic opportunity to support local creators and students. While we don’t know the exact ticket prices for this year’s event yet, here are last year’s prices:
- Attendees over 12: $3.
- Seniors: $2.
- Children under 12: Free.
Newton Harvest Fair
While the Newton Harvest Fair doesn’t technically take place in Norwood, it’s worth the 25-minute drive to visit a charming fall harvest festival, scheduled for October 15th and 16th, 2022. After you finish buying crafts at Norwood High School, you can hop in your car and drive over to Newton, where the first day of the Harvest Fair is all for the kids. On Saturday, there will be kiddie rides and food trucks in Newton Centre. You can buy both rides and snacks on site.
The next day, Sunday, October 16th, is the full harvest market day, with vendors from across Massachusetts. Like the Craft Affair, it’s impossible to predict what you’ll find at the Harvest Fair, which is part of the fun. According to Wicked Local, there were over 125 vendors at last year’s Harvest Fair, selling homemade goods and gifts. This year, the Harvest Fair will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days.
Holiday Extravaganza
Norwood’s Holiday Extravaganza is the perfect way to end the season and welcome in the holidays. This family-friendly event is traditionally held the Sunday after Thanksgiving, which is November 27th this year, and lasts from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. With a parade, horse-drawn hayrides, and crafts, this event is perfect for the whole family. You can also enjoy festive holiday carols and traditional stories. The Holiday Extravaganza ends with a guest appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus, who light the holiday tree in the town square, officially beginning the holiday season in Norwood.
